10 ways to save money in Bristol this week!
Welcome back to Broke in Bristol – the blog that helps you save money, make money and live life to the full on a budget. I’m Ms Broke in Bristol and I’ve got 10 tips that will save you money this week!
Today, Little Miss Diva is super excited because we’re off on our day trip to London. I’ve already mentioned that you can go anywhere on the South West Trains network for £16 adult, £3 kids until 9 September (day return) but to make it even cheaper you can combine it with one of South West Trains two for one offers too. There are loads to choose from including the London Eye, London Zoo, Madame Tussauds, London Aquarium or the Tower of London so you could save yourself a small fortune just by planning ahead.
Closer to home, there are absolutely loads of free and cheap things to do with the kids this summer and you can check out my full list by clicking here. Bristol Zoo is also running a promotion where one child goes free per paying adult these summer holidays. This could save a family of four up to £22, just take a look at its website for more details.
Kids eat for free/cheap
If all that sounds like hungry work, then there are loads of kids eat free and cheap offers running during the holidays! Take them to one of three Harvester pubs in Bristol: The Crown Inn in Longwell Green, the Lamb and Flag in Cribbs Causeway and The Snuff Mill in Frenchay where they can eat for just £1 when an adult buys a meal.
Just up the road from me, The Totterdown Canteen is running a promotion where kids can eat for half price, which means you can feed the little ‘uns for as little as 75p from Monday to Friday 8-3pm 'til 2 Sept. Every Wednesday, it also has a two for one offer on small breakfasts from 8-3pm, which I’ve tried myself and they are yum.
As an extra special treat, I want to take Little Miss Diva to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant on Park St in Clifton before the schools go back. During August, kids can eat Jamie’s award-winning food for free with a paying adult. All you need to do to claim this offer is bring up the website on your smartphone and show them the code KIDSTP.
Sometimes after a long day out and about with the kids, a takeaway is the only answer! Deliveroo is offering Broke in Bristol readers £10 off their first order and, when I checked yesterday, 34 Bristol restaurants were delivering to my postcode. The company is adding new postcodes all the time and it means you can eat food from restaurants like Wagamamas and 4500 Miles from Delhi – without moving from your sofa.
Pick up a posh picnic
Bristol’s Balloon Fiesta starts this Thursday (11 August) and since moving to Totterdown, I love nothing more than heading on over to Perrett’s Park. It means you can avoid the hustle and bustle of Ashton Court and spend the money you would have spent on fast food and rides on a posh picnic instead! M&S has a summer deal on at the moment where you can choose four deli items and you’ll receive a free bottle of wine, picnic bag or cutlery for a tenner.
Get paid to penny pinch!
If you’re currently looking for work and you think you’ve got what it takes to sniff out the hottest deals, check out Hotukdeals as they are looking for forum moderators and deal hunters – you could get paid to penny pinch! Also, have you heard that Herbal Essences are giving away free hair-cuts? All you need to do is buy two 400ml bottles of Herbal Essences before 31 October 2016 and upload your receipt here. Make sure you do it within 14 days of your purchase, see the website for terms and conditions.
Finally, if you’re off on holiday, it’s worth filling your car up at an Asda petrol station before you go as it has slashed prices at some of its Bristol garages to 105.7ppl. But to be sure which is the cheapest garage near you, you can always check out this petrol price comparison website.
