20 free & cheap things to do (with or without the kids) this week.

It’s the weekend – which can only mean one thing – it’s time for our pick of free and cheap things to do in Bristol! Every week, we’ll be letting you know about all the free and cheap events going on, whether you’re young, free and single or looking for some family-friendly fun.

Stuck for something to do tonight? Head on down to the Fleece for its Freak Out club night, which will set you back just £3.30. Of course you’ll also have to fork out for drinks, but these are ridiculously cheap too at just £3 for a double spirit and mixer. From 11-4am DJs will play disco, soul, electro and classic hip hop – I might even see you on the dance floor!

Motion’s monthly free rave also takes place tonight and it’s free entry before 12pm, a fiver after midnight, or you can secure your place in advance for just a quid! This club night promises to showcase the best in Drum and Bass, House, Garage and Bass – so wear your dancing shoes! If you’ve still got stamina and your hangover aint too bad, Thekla has its All Day Summer Deck Party tomorrow from 2-8pm, which will set you back just a fiver.

I’d rather be broke in Bristol than any other city considering the amount of free events taking place for families during the summer holidays. At the Lamplighters pub in Shirehampton there’s a free bouncy castle for kids and garden games from Monday to Saturday and this is happening for the rest of the summer holidays. What more of an excuse do you need to put your feet up while the kids play?

On Wednesday 24 August, there’s a free event at the Hallatrow Business Park in BS39 which looks fab. Not only is it free entrance, there’s free story time, a free book to take home for under 16s and a free meal for anyone under 12 from the children's menu! They’re also offering 50% off additional meals for anybody up to 16 years when you spend over £10 in The Full Stop Café.

If watching the Rio 2016 Olympics has inspired you to get active, then get yourself down to the Official Team GB FanZone at the Big Screen in Bristol where you can participate in some of the sports that our Team GB stars will be competing in before it’s all over! Some of the sports include volleyball, canoeing, shooting and table tennis – and if all that sounds a little too energetic – you can always just relax with a drink. Time your visit on a hot sunny day so that the kids can splash in the fountains.

One of the main highlights this week is a family fun day which is being held to raise money for Children in Need at Millennium Square next Thursday 25 August. Kids will be able to jump on the bouncy castle, play games, have their faces painted, meet Anna and Elsa from Frozen and say hello to Pudsey. This is a free event from 12 ‘til 5 but take a few quid with you ‘cause it’s for a worthy cause.

There are loads more things to do in Bristol this week, from dog shows to affordable art exhibitions and bike workshops. For a full list of free and cheap things to do visit our What’s On page and check out our 25 things to do with the kids in Bristol this summer – they will have no excuse to be bored!
