Simple way to find online supermarket delivery slots

Securing an online delivery food shop for yourself, or a vulnerable person isolating due to the Coronavirus pandemic, has proven virtually impossible over the last few weeks.

Well that was until two very clever people Jason and Sabrina came up with Shopping Slot – a search engine that scrawls Asda, Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose for the next available delivery slot according to your postcode.

When I entered my postcode to check if it was actually possible to get a delivery slot, nothing came up for Asda, Tesco and Waitrose – but I was offered two slots from Iceland on Wednesday April 22 between 6:00 and 8:00am and 21:00 and 23:00pm as you can see from the screenshot below.

I didn't take the slot as I would prefer one of my elderly or immunocompromised neighbours to benefit from it, so I'm asking readers to do the same if they're fit and healthy, but help spread the word to help those who aren't.

And if you don't see a slot straight away do try again the next day as I initially tried yesterday (Monday April 20) and decided not to publish a post as no results came up. If you haven't shopped at Iceland for a while – you can pretty much get everything you need at the budget supermarket although there is obviously a focus on frozen food.

Meanwhile, for those of us who can leave the house to shop, web developer Paul Hulatt has come up with a fab new app called Supermarket Check-In which tells you how long the queue is at your nearest supermarkets. When I checked this morning, my nearest Tesco and Sainsbury's had 10 in the queue but Asda and Iceland had no waiting times at all. As the app relies on updates from customers I've yet to see how accurate it is but I think it's a fabulous idea – the app is available on Apple's App Store or Google Play.
