Look out for Luke Jerram's Sky Orchestra

There's a real treat for fans of Luke Jerram's interactive art installations coming up at the end of this month. If you enjoyed Museum of the Moon, Play Me I'm Yours and Park and Slide then you're just going to love this!

The Sky Orchestra is an experimental artwork bringing together performance and music to create visual audio installations over the skies of Bristol at dawn.

Created by Bristol artist Luke Jerram in collaboration with BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones, seven balloons will take off at dawn with speakers attached creating music to our ears. What could be a better way to lift people's spirits after we've all been cooped up indoors due to Covid?

The exact dates haven't yet been announced but a new composition has been commissioned by Bristol Old Vic for a performance over Bristol in the coming weeks.

“As the city begins to unlock, I wanted a way to deliver an uplifting experience to people in their homes," says Luke. "Something spectacular, yet somehow intimate. To create a sense of renewal, hope and rebirth, to raise the public’s spirits and mark a moment in time."

For a glimpse of what's to come you can watch this clip of the Sky Orchestra take over Londonderry in 2013 on YouTube. I'll also be putting together a post on free & affordable events and days out for the family over the coming weeks. More from Broke in Bristol – & beyond.
