Good morning Bristol and beyond and happy #FreebieFriday! Now that the UK is easing out of lockdown and slowly returning to normal, you might appreciate a free coffee at the end of a long working week.
New and existing customers can get their hands on a free coffee just by downloading or logging into the Costa app which you can download from their website or the app store. A free £3 is waiting for everybody as a welcome back gift but please check your local outlet is open before getting your hopes up! There are loads of Costas up and down the country but not all of them will have reopened so always best to check before making a special trip. And you don't have to spend it on coffee – why not treat yourself to a hot chocolate or a bite to eat?
Meanwhile, in other news this week fans of Bristol artist Luke Jerram are in for a real treat later this month. The man responsible for Museum of the Moon, Play Me I'm Yours and Park and Slide is working with BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones to bring Sky Orchestra to Bristol.
This will comprise of seven hot air balloons that will take off at dawn with speakers attached creating music to our ears. What could be a better way to lift people's spirits after we've all been cooped up indoors due to Covid?
The exact dates haven't yet been announced but a new composition has been commissioned by Bristol Old Vic for a performance over Bristol in the coming weeks. “As the city begins to unlock, I wanted a way to deliver an uplifting experience to people in their homes," says Luke. "Something spectacular, yet somehow intimate. To create a sense of renewal, hope and rebirth, to raise the public’s spirits and mark a moment in time."
For a glimpse of what's to come you can watch this clip of the Sky Orchestra take over Londonderry in 2013 on YouTube. I'll also be putting together a post on free & affordable events and days out for the family over the coming weeks. More from Broke in Bristol – & beyond.
