Should we 'Shop Out to Help Out?

Shop Out to Help Out could save the high st

Remember last summer when we were encouraged to Eat Out to Help Out? Well today campaigners have launched a similar campaign in a bid to help small independent shops and save the high street.

The brainchild of campaign group Save The Street and marketing firm Appear Here, the Shop Out to Help Out initiative is urging the Government to cover 50 per cent of the cost of goods bought at independent retailers, capped at £10 for a month this summer.

That's £10 free for the likes of you and me and it could also be a lifeline for small independent retailers with physical shopfronts and less than £10 employees. What's not to love? Well it will have to be paid for somehow, but campaign organisers suggest hitting online retailers with some kind of extra tax to pay for the scheme.
